Viva Mexico! The 2016 Mexico Independence Parade
On September 11, 2016 the most colorful and festive parade in Chicago stepped off from 26th street in Little Village. The parade celebrates Mexico's independence from Spanish rule in September 1810. As the slides below show there were mariachi bands, floats and dancing in the streets.
The Latino Caucus of the Chicago Teachers Union sponsored the float in the parade. After the parade the teachers and their supporters met and discussed the upcoming strike at Home Run Pizza.
It was simply a fun, sunny day. Enjoy some of the participants of the parade.
