Chicago Phone Bank Operators Celebrate Record Sign Up for Obama-Care
February 10, 2016 Chicago phone bank operators gathered at the Garfield Park Conservatory to celebrate record sign up for Obama-Care. By now I'm sure most have learned that 12.7 million Americans chose a health plan during the third enrollment period. About 42% of those applications were new to the Marketplace, which is another good sign. That's around the level HHS expected, with more consumers actively renewing over auto-renewal and more young people making applications for the first time. Here's the CMS/HHS breakdown for Illinois.
Illinois Marketplace total: 388,179
Chicago: 310,523
Champaign/Springfield/Decatur: 25,196
Peoria/Bloomington: 14,097
Rockford: 13,536

A couple weeks ago the operators had a discussion about the uninsured who remain out of reach of the Marketplace and other programs, including Medicaid expansion.
