CTU President Karen Lewis: 'It is time to for us to act' at Grant Park Rally
On November 23, 2015 teachers rallied in Chicago's Grant Park to get ready for a strike in 2016.
Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) President Karen Lewis addressed a screaming crowd in the thousands that braved a frigid night in Grant Park. "It is time for us to act. No teacher wants to go on strike", she said. "We prefer to be in front of our students, but we know that when we must, we will withhold our labor. Because this is the root of our power as organized labor, and if we must strike, we do so to protect the interests of our students. We must show the city, the mayor's hand picked Board of Education and even our students and parents that Chicago's public school educators will stand up for what is just and fair, and together we will fight to protect our profession and our classrooms."
Chicago Teachers still have no contract to replace the one that expired on June 30, 2015. A teacher's strike would add another straw to Rahmbo's camel's back. Maybe it will be the straw that will break the camel's back, as he fights recall efforts for the cover up of the Laquan McDonald murder.
