The People's History of Arlington Heights, IL. from 1992 to Present.
This on-line, participatory book will be written from the point of view of residents that were ignored politically or economically during the 'revitalization' of Arlington Heights. We know that history is recorded by the political and economic establishment. They will largely ignore the democratic struggles that were pushed aside for the benefit of the power elite that unilaterally run this community.
Examples include: downtown development, Metropolis Theatre purchase, flooding, affordable
housing, McMansions, slots, zoning changes, Village spending, Taj mahal, traffic issues, parking lots, cemetaries, financially stressed businesses and homeowners, eminent domain, TIF abuse, election reform, campaign contributions, Village services, high real estate taxes, vacant store fronts and Metra safety.
The book is intended to be an antidote to local establishment history. Readers are encouraged to submit their stories, quotations and personal struggles against the financial influence and
manipulation of Village Hall. Please include dates, purpose and ultimate direction taken by the Village Board.
Please use the contact form below. I look forward to hearing from you.
